During the recent lockdowns I was live-streaming weekly solo acoustic shows from my home studio. As a Rolling Stones fan I started including a cover of ‘Dead Flowers’ in the sets - the track quickly became a regular feature of these shows and was requested every week.

So I took the opportunity to record the song at home. Having used lockdown to upgrade and improve my home studio, I got my band Ian Jennings (bass) and Garry Kroll (drums) to come and lay down the rhythm section as soon as restrictions allowed. The recording stays true to my lockdown performances of the song with my acoustic guitar at the core, with the addition of some slide and electric guitar embellishments. Our friend Alex Hart added harmony vocals as the icing on the cake!

Produced and mixed by myself, this was the perfect lockdown project to focus on whilst we continue to wait to tour the new album (‘Sink or Swim’ released September 2020).

Hope you enjoy my version of ‘Dead Flowers’, 50 years after the original 1971 release!
